Yes, Al is your "waiter" but thank goodness he is supported by your family and friends who, in a different way, all also waiters who love and care very deeply about you.

Judy - you hit the nail on the head. As I typed I veered somewhat from this but my initial intent was simply to acknowledge and thank DH Al (and all The Waiters) because I don't want his (their) efforts (and need for support) to be overlooked because all of the attention tends to be focused on ME - The Patient.

Oh, it is so hard being the Waiter but I can see why you would choose that over Patient. In my many stints (see what I did there) as Waiter I have always felt that tether that you described. Though my Patient might be deeply and fully sedated, I have convinced myself that somehow he knows I am waiting. That’s what allows me to wait without losing my mind. And wait...
